The applicable rule for Receiving, Storing and Handling Hydrogen Gas cylinders in a “industrial premises” or “Gas Distribution premises” or any other type of premises, is guided by the regulations stated in The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) / Chief Controller of Explosives (CCoE) – “Gas Cylinder Rules – 2004“.
We discuss and highlight the various rules and their impact on our customers who wish to store Hydrogen in cylinders.
At a “premises” one is allowed to store 25 Hydrogen Gas cylinders, or 200 Kgs. of Hydrogen gas without seeking license and / or formal NOC / Approval from the CCoE (Chief Controller of Explosives – Nagpur, India).
At any “premises” exceeding the limit set forth above in Rule 1, will lawfully bind the Manager or Owner of the premises, to obtain the No objection certificates (NOC) / License, from the CCOE – Nagpur.
Only a Licensed organization can store, transport, handle, supply or deal in Hydrogen gas cylinders.
Impact : Customers need not get overly concerned with such approvals and rules applications. They should look towards their machinery supplier for further guidance. MVS Engineering Limited is an experienced organization that has been guiding its customers for the last few decades to get relevant approvals as and when approvals are necessary.
Please note: The rules/notes highlighted above are simply an interpretation and summary of rules and by no means should be construed as the statutory guide for Hydrogen and/or cylinder storage. Please refer to PESO/CCoE website and relevant rule book publications for further information.
