The Importance of Hydrogen for Heat Treatment Furnaces

A furnace is used to provide a huge amount of heat for accomplishing different physical processes in manufacturing industries. The atmosphere inside a furnace should contain neutral gases, which will not interfere with the nature and result of the heat treatment processes. Hydrogen is an important gas that is preferred for use in the controlled atmosphere inside a furnace. MVS Engineering Pvt. Ltd provides an onsite hydrogen generator, which can supply hydrogen for the heat treatment furnace continuously.

Heat treatment processes where hydrogen atmosphere is needed

An enormous amount of heat is generated in an industrial furnace through the combustion of the fuel in a controlled atmosphere. This heat supports various heat treatment processes, for which hydrogen should be present to check the spontaneous reactions of oxygen present in the air. The prevention of oxidation of iron or steel is the main purpose of generating hydrogen for a heat treatment furnace.

• Bright annealing: Metals can be heated to a high temperature in the controlled hydrogen atmosphere and then slowly cooled down to soften them. This heat treatment process can change both physical and chemical properties.

• Annealing of steel: Steel is heated to a temperature of 700°C to remove all impurities from the metal. This process is used in many industries where the ductility and hardness of steel should be altered for manufacturing purposes.

• Sintering:
When several solid particles are subjected to a high temperature and pressure to create a solid lump, the process is called sintering. This heat treatment process is used to create metal objects of unusual shapes.

• Brazing: If two metal or ceramic objects are joined by pouring a compatible metal in the molten stage over the joint, it is called brazing. The filler metal is heated to a temperature of 450°C to melt and spread in capillary action on the joint gap.

• Vacuum procedures: Hydrogen can be used as the residual gas in a vacuum system, as this gas is not easily absorbed or diffused into metals, unlike oxygen or other gases.

The hydrogen produced by the hydrogen generator of MVS Engineering can be up to 99% pure and dry. Thus, it is protective of the heat treatment processes and prevents the interference of any other gas during these processes. The continuous supply of hydrogen for heat treatment furnaces is the reason for the popularity of the hydrogen plant of this company.
