A Large PSA Oxygen Plant Set Up in TATA Central Hospital for Critical Patients

MVS Engineering has set up a PSA Oxygen Plant of 726 square feet in a branch of Tata Central Hospital. It produces a bulk amount of pure oxygen and also provides a storage facility to secure excess oxygen for future use. This PSA plant was supplied in 2021 to supply oxygen for hospitals and save COVID patients from breathing problems, which was a primary symptom of this deadly disease.

PSA is the short form of Pressure Swing Adsorption, a modern technological process used for deriving pure oxygen from the air by absorbing nitrogen, the primary air component. This concentrated form of oxygen is either filled in cylinders or directly sent to patients through pipelines. Thus, it is an efficient medical oxygen generator that can prevent the lack of oxygen for critical patients in the hospital.

When this PSA oxygen plant was inaugurated in Tata Central Hospital, the Vice President of the Corporate Services division in TATA Steel, Chanakya Choudhary, was present there as the chief guest. This special moment was also witnessed by TATA Steel’s General Manager of Medical Services, Dr Sudhir Rai, advisor in Medical Services Dr Rajan Choudhary, Chief of the Corporate Social Responsibility division Sourav Roy, and the General Manager of West Bokaro division Manish Mishra.

Since this PSA oxygen plant also acts as a storage house of freshly produced oxygen, Tata Central Hospital is expected to have a continuous supply of pure oxygen for its patients. Thus, this hospital will never need to buy oxygen at high rates from the market. This plant can supply oxygen to patients in all 50 beds of this hospital, which proved to be a boon during the pandemic of COVID-19. Thus, it is counted among the best onsite oxygen generation plants due to its high efficiency.
