Nitrogen gas finds use extensively in cement plants where pulverized coal is used

Inert gases like Nitrogen and carbon dioxide are a critical utility gas for coal based cement plants as they assist in fire prevention and firefighting application. For use in the clinker furnace, coal is crushed into powdered form, a process known as pulverization, and then used in the furnace.

Using pulverized coal has its own set of challenges during the handling and storage of the powdered coal. Coal has an ability to spontaneously combust if ambient conditions are favourable to assist fire. In India, where ambient temperatures in summers usually exceed 45°C, pulverized coal catches fire quite easily and is a major problem for cement plants. Pulverized coal goes from the coal mill to the hoppers, silos and fine coal dust is also collected in bag filters. In all of these processes, cement plants introduce inert gas to prevent fires.

Traditionally, inert gas systems based on fuel burning process were used. However, Nitrogen production using MVS PSA Nitrogen application has many benefits (read more in our article here) and increasingly cement plants are using Nitrogen gas instead of CO2.

MVS Engineering PSA Nitrogen plants are running at all the leading cement manufacturing plants in India and we will happily share our references with you.

You can email us with your requirement and our technical team will design a package specifically suited to your requirement.
